Arm Balance 1 &2

PART 1

Saturday, June 22, 2024

10:30 AM  12:30 PM

Join me for a 2-hour arm balancing workshop! Part 1 is designed to teach you how to do arm-balances with greater mindfulness and ease. Students often over-rely on force when working on these poses rather than learning to understand the essential actions and movements. We will learn drills to strengthen the core, use props for preparation and skill building, and the mechanics necessary to hold crow pose safely and effectively. This workshop is suitable for ALL LEVELS and has a strong emphasis on foundation. Most importantly, we will learn the art of play in practice!

PART 2

Sunday, June 23, 2024

10:30 AM  11:30 AM

Part 2 is a super playful class designed for those who can already hold crow pose and are seeking to expand their arm balance posture repertoire. There will be a heavy emphasis on strength training and prep. We will explore ways to make even the most seemingly advanced arm balances attainable. With strength drills and effective prep, you will understand the energetics necessary to hold more 'advanced' postures with ease. We will explore various postures and transitions such as: forearm balance, handstand, crow to headstand, and 8 angle pose. Attendance of Part 1 is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Backbends 1 &2

Backbends help bring your body back into balance. Many of us spend majority of our days hunched over, head forward, and front body contracted.  A regular backbend practice is essential to the longevity of our spine, expansion of the breath, and essential to a healthier life.  Energetically, backbends help up to “open the heart” and to release the fight/flight/fear response associated with life in the West.

Part 1

Saturday, July 27, 2024

10:30-12:30PM

In  this 2 hour workshop we will break down the foundations and mechanics of a back arch to encourage proper alignment, strength, and safety within each progressing posture to avoid injury.  In Backbends 1, we will learn how to strengthen and warm up properly before a backbend practice, the function of the breath within posture, and use props to meet each body appropriately.  Backbends 1 is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED before taking Backbends 2.  Students will leave with skills to practice appropriate backbends for their body currently, develop a personal understanding of how to safely enter and exit any back arch, as well as develop tools to challenge themselves safely to progress their personal backbend practice.

THIS CLASS IS APPROPRIATE FOR ALL LEVELS.

PART 2

Sunday, July 28, 2024

10:30 AM - 12:30 PM

In Backbends Part 2, I will assume the basics are present and a strong foundation in backhanding is already there.  This class will be designed for those who want more attention, practice, and development in wheel pose, king dancer, and camel pose.  We will explore different variations, transitions, strength and flexibility drills (including how to work towards a ‘fall back’, as well as hands on assistance.  Backbends 1 is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED before taking Backbends 2 because many people who are “hyper-mobile” and have incredible flexibility often lack the strength to move in and out of backbends safely.  Students will leave with a tool belt of strength and flexibility drills to take their backhanding practice to new possibilities.

Inversions 1&2

PART 1

Saturday, August 24, 2024

10:30 AM  12:30 PM

Inversions are an essential part of any yoga practice. Inversions not only increases re-circulation of blood and lymph but energetically they move the ‘dead’ matter and patterning up into the solar plexus to be burned and expelled out through the breath. Inversions are incredibly rejuvenating and life-giving. Many students express fear, sometimes dread, towards inversions, especially Sirsasana the most challenging upside-down posture that requires precise balance on the crown of the head. These workshops are designed to meet your fears of inequity and doubt with the attitude that anything is possible.

In Inversions 1 (appropriate for all levels!) we will explore the relationship between the breath and energetic values of Prana and Apana, learn the proper and natural alignment of the spine, practice plank drills to strengthen the muscles necessary for any inversion practice, we will practice assisted headstand and shoulder stand. We will make use of props to meet ALL BODIES in addition to developing a deeper understanding of the posture in a supported way. Inversions 1 is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED before taking inversions 2 for foundational purposes.

PART 2

Sunday, August 25, 2024

10:30 AM  12:30 PM

In Inversions 2 we will dive into more advanced pranayama techniques, bhandas, and strength drills for shoulder stand headstand. Holding headstand in the middle of the room is not required for this class if you have attended Part 1. If you have not attended Part 1, it is required that you can hold headstand for at least 5 breaths in the middle of the room to take this class. If time allows, we will explore other inversions including: forearm balance and handstand. Inversions 1 is not required, but strongly encouraged.
